History & Impact
Vouchers 4 Veggies is a nationally-recognized organization whose innovative food assistance programs provide benefits people use to purchase nutritious foods. In addition, we provide technical assistance to organizations nationwide interested in implementing similar programs in their communities.

Vouchers 4 Veggies was launched in San Francisco in 2015 by Dr. Hilary Seligman, a nationally recognized expert on the intersection between food insecurity and health. Since then, V4V has achieved rapid success – assisting thousands of individuals to increase their consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, infusing millions of dollars in healthy food purchases into low-income neighborhoods, and supporting local food retailers. V4V has established strong multi-sector collaborations including hundreds of community distribution points for vouchers and a robust network of corner stores, grocers, and farmer’s markets that accept the vouchers.
Today V4V is recognized as a model for creating equitable local food systems and has been optimized for national replication including programs in Southern California and California’s Central Valley, Boulder, CO, Louisiana, and Cumberland, VA.
