EatSF Community Grocery Access
The EatSF Community Grocery Access program, launched in 2020, provides emergency grocery benefits to low-income households in need of temporary support. Benefit distribution is administered by community organizations serving food-insecure populations such as newcomers, shelter residents, and low-income families with young children; partner organizations distribute 3-month increments of benefits redeemable for various groceries including produce, meat and dairy, prepared foods and more.
Participants may redeem benefits across a broad network of small, medium, and large grocery stores as well as specialty vendors and farmers markets, allowing for purchase of foods which may be unavailable through other forms of food assistance.
The EatSF grocery program not only enables participants to overcome temporary barriers to food security, but provides partner organizations with a valuable tool for engaging and supporting their client communities during difficult times. Partner organizations consistently report satisfaction and ease of use from their experience with the EatSF grocery program. The temporary nature of EatSF also allows it to pivot easily, filling local food security gaps as they arise.
This program is funded by the City and County of San Francisco Human Services Agency.
