Over the past 5 years, Dalda’s Community Market has been a proud partner of Vouchers 4 Veggies (V4V). Located in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco, Dalda’s is a well-known and loved presence in the community. In 2015, Dalda’s Community Market was remodeled by Healthy Food Retail SF. Their store went from selling junk food and alcohol to offering fresh and frozen produce, healthy snacks, and forgoing tobacco and alcohol sales. Dalda’s owner, Bill, notes the impact V4V has had on his store: “Most customers used to think of Dalda’s as a liquor store…more people come in and shop here like it’s a grocery store now.”

In 2020, Dalda’s was presented with an exciting opportunity to further expand their store and its healthy food offerings. The Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) developed a new housing site at 222 Taylor Street which included a commercial space. TNDC approached the community to vote upon who would fill the new space. Leveraging the respect the community has for Bill and his staff, community members overwhelmingly voted for Dalda’s to fill the space. The store reopened in the new location on November 22, 2020 and now boasts a beautiful, expanded space that allows Dalda’s to function as a full-service grocer. The expansion boasts 3 large produce cases and dry bins, as well as healthy grab-and-go meals, like sandwiches and salads. In addition, Dalda’s is able to support the diverse cultural needs of the Tenderloin community by offering Halal and Kosher meats. Through Dalda’s partnership with TNDC, they will offer Tenderloin residents a Healthy Foods Community Discount — a 10% discount on all healthy food items. The Vouchers 4 Veggies team is so excited for Bill and his staff and will continue to work alongside them to provide healthy food to Tenderloin residents!
